A local team of eight churches and synagogues is ready to put on its third Juneteenth celebration on Thursday.On Tuesday, MCM attended the final rehearsal before the Route 28/Quince Orchard Interfaith Team presents the program.
The event is 6:30 p.m. Thursday at Poplar Grove Baptist Church on Jones Lane in North Potomac. It is open to the public and will also be live-streamed on the Prince of Peace Lutheran Church’s Facebook page. There will be music, a children’s song, history about Juneteenth, and monologues read by different church and synagogue members.
The interfaith team is made up of congregations on the Route 28 corridor in the Darnestown-Gaithersburg-Rockville areas.
“We’re just hoping that people will come together and realize how important it is that, it doesn’t matter where you’re from, what your skin color is. We are all a part of this world, and we need to learn to live among each other in peace, harmony and unity, and respect each others’ differences, and recognize the things that we have in common,” said Charlotte Genies, Deacon at Poplar Grove Baptist Church.
