U.S. Rep. Jamie Raskin is the projected winner of his reelection campaign to represent Maryland’s 8th Congressional District, according to the Associated Press.
Raskin defeated Republican Cheryl Riley with 82.7% of votes as of 10:31 p.m. Tuesday, according to the Maryland State Board of Elections unofficial results. He held his election night watch party in Bethesda, where news of the projected win resulted in cheers from the crowd, according to the campaign.
Once the election results are certified, the Democrat would serve a sixth term in the House of Representatives.
Raskin serves as the top Democrat on the House Judiciary Committee. With the retirement of U.S. Rep. Steny Hoyer, he is expected to become the senior Democrat in Maryland’s congressional delegation by length of service.
Raskin also spent the 2026 election cycle supporting Democratic candidates nationwide. According to his campaign, he helped raise more than $5.5 million for Democratic candidates, parties and organizing efforts through his campaign committee, Democracy Summer Leadership PAC, joint fundraising agreements and fundraising appearances.
The campaign said Raskin supported 280 candidates and organizations in 48 states, Washington, D.C. and Puerto Rico. He also campaigned in 43 congressional districts and traveled approximately 56,000 miles to support Democratic candidates, according the Raskin campaign.
In Maryland’s 8th District, which include Rockville and Takoma Park in Montgomery County and parts of Prince George’s County, Raskin held more than 80 campaign events, parties and rallies, according to a campaign statement.
Raskin also hosted virtual election night party on Facebook.
