Jawando to Host Forums on Education Budget

Councilmember Will Jawando will host two public forums to answer questions on the county’s education budget for the coming fiscal year.

Jermaine F. Williams, president of Montgomery College, and Monique Felder, interim superintendent of Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS), will attend the forums.

The first forum will be held on Wednesday at 6 p.m. in Montgomery College’s Germantown campus. The second will take place April 16 at 6 p.m. in Montgomery Blair High School in Silver Spring.

After County Executive Marc Elrich designated $3.3 billion for MCPS as part of his proposed 2025 operating budget, the Montgomery County Education Association expressed disappointment.

“We are disappointed that County Executive Elrich, a former teacher who as an elected leader has previously been a champion of public education, has proposed a budget for MCPS that does not honor the Board of Education’s already insufficient request,” the union said.

Jawando, chair of the Montgomery County Council Education & Culture Committee, invited the community to submit questions ahead of the discussions here.
