The County has strict rules about fireworks. All fireworks, including sparklers, are illegal for private use and possession. The ban includes the sale, possession, storage, and use of fireworks. The only exception is for licensed professionals who have a permit to ignite fireworks at neighborhood displays. People who violate the law could face a $1,000 fine and/or 6 months in jail.
MCM spoke with Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service (MCFRS) spokesman Pete Piringer about the dangers fireworks pose. Piringer also offered some other tips to stay safe during the holiday:
The County’s 7 outdoor pools will be open on the 4th from 11 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., and then from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Most neighborhood pools also will open on the holiday, but residents should check to find out the hours of operation.
