An 18-year-old Kensington resident who works with two Montgomery County fire departments has been charged with possession of child pornography.
Evan Morrison, a volunteer firefighter/EMT affiliated with the Wheaton Volunteer Rescue Squad and the Bethesda Fire Department since 2023, was charged with 10 misdemeanor counts of possession of child pornography following a seven-month investigation that began with a national cyber tip.
The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children received a tip on Feb. 19 regarding a social media account suspected of hosting child pornography possessed by the suspect.
The tip was provided to the Maryland Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force and forwarded to the Montgomery County Department of Police for investigation.
During the course of the investigation, detectives traced the associated IP address to a residence in Kensington and identified the account as being connected to Morrison.
Detectives searched his residence on Nicholson Lane on Oct. 3 and recovered multiple items of evidentiary value. Ten days later, they seized his electronic devices that were in the home.
Morrison was taken into custody on Nov. 30 and was initially held in Anne Arundel County. On Wednesday, he posted $20,000 bond in Montgomery County Circuit Court. A trial is scheduled for Jan. 5, 2026.
He is no longer involved with volunteer fire and rescue activities and no longer has access to any MCFRS facilities, equipment, systems or records.
