Leaders, Exhibitors Join 10th Annual Energy Summit in Silver Spring

Wednesday was day two of Montgomery County’s 10th annual Energy Summit at the Silver Spring Civic Building.

Exhibitors from different organizations and companies, like the Montgomery County Green Bank and Blink Charging, showcased their own services.

Speakers on Wednesday included Council President Evan Glass, Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) Deputy Director Vicky Wan, and Chief Administrative Officer Rich Madaleno, who spoke on behalf of County Executive Marc Elrich, who is in Taiwan for a conference.

The energy summit serves to prepare the commercial building community for energy benchmarking compliance, building performance standards and building codes, according to the county.

Last year, Montgomery County enacted legislation to establish energy performance standards for buildings. Commercial and residential buildings make up 50% of greenhouse gas emissions in the jurisdiction as of 2018, according to the county.

The morning also featured a panel discussion with Climate Change Program Manager for the Maryland Department of the Environment Mark Stewart, County Department of Permitting Services Director Rabbiah Sabbakhan and DEP Energy Climate Compliance Chief Stan Edwards.
