Leaders Raise Pride Flag for Fifth Year in a Row

For the fifth year in a row, county leaders raised a Pride flag in Rockville to mark the start of Pride Month.

“Every year the Pride celebration gets bigger and bigger,” said County Council President Evan Glass, the county’s first openly gay councilmember who this year led the flag-raising ceremony as president on Thursday.

Leaders raised the Progress Pride flag outside the Executive Office Building on Veterans Memorial Plaza. County leaders first raised the Pride flag in 2019.

This Pride month, the county debuted a Ride On bus wrapped with the Pride flag and displaying the slogan #RideWithPride.

Also Thursday, Maryland Gov. Wes Moore proclaimed June as LGBTQIA+ Pride Month in the state.

“I want everyone in our LGBTQIA+ community to know that they deserve to be seen for who they are, and our administration will stand with them in the fight for equality and equity,” Moore stated in a release.
