Mailwoman Robbed at Gunpoint in Chevy Chase; 50K Reward for Information

A United States Postal Service (USPS) letter carrier was robbed at gunpoint while delivering mail on her route in Chevy Chase Tuesday, according to United States Postal Inspection Service officials.

Both Montgomery County police officers and U.S. postal inspectors from the Washington Division responded to the 8800 block of Walnut Hill Rd after a mailwoman was approached from behind by the suspect. The suspect, described as a Black man in his early 20s, had a handgun and demanded USPS property, officials said.

Once the suspect acquired the property, he fled the scene on foot. The mailwoman was not harmed or injured, according to officials.

The U.S. Postal Inspection Service is offering a $50,000 reward for any information leading to the suspect’s arrest and conviction as the investigation is ongoing. According to officials, the suspect is about 5’9” with a short afro and facial acne. He was last seen wearing blue basketball shorts and a white shirt.
