Man Dead in Chevy Chase Crash

Police said a man died in a collision in Chevy Chase Saturday.

29-year-old Jobani Alfredo Cruz of Washington, D.C., was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the Montgomery County Police Department (MCPD).

According to MCPD, police and fire/rescue responded to Connecticut Avenue at Quincy Street at about 12:19 a.m. Saturday for a reported crash involving a Dodge Ram 1500 pickup truck and a Mercedes SLK.

Police stated both vehicles were going northbound on Connecticut Avenue toward Quincy Street when they collided in the road “for reasons unknown at this time.”

After the first collision, the pickup truck struck a Pepco pole and several trees while the Mercedes overturned, police said. Cruz, who was driving the pickup truck, was ejected and pronounced dead at the scene.

The man driving the Mercedes and a woman who was a passenger in the truck were taken to hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries, police stated.

The investigation is ongoing. MCPD asks anyone with information to contact Collision Reconstruction Unit detectives at (240) 773-6620.
