Man Pleads Guilty to Murder Over Missing Dog

A man pleaded guilty on Tuesday to shooting and killing his mother’s boyfriend in July 2023.

Lawrence Marcellus Marshall IV, 21, of an unknown address, faces up to 60 years in prison for the death of 40-year-old Cederic Warner on Lockwood Drive in the White Oak area, according to the Montgomery County State’s Attorney’s Office (MCSAO).

According to charging documents, witnesses said Marshall IV blamed Warner for losing Marshall’s dog. He threatened to kill Warner if he did not find the dog. Later, witnesses heard them arguing followed by the sound of gunfire. Warner was found on the ground with gunshot wounds> He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Marshall IV pleaded guilty to one count of second-degree murder and one count of use of a handgun in a violent crime, according to MCSAO. Sentencing is scheduled for Aug. 28.
