MCDOT Will Hold Community Meeting on US 29 Flash BRT

The US 29 Flash Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) has been running since October 2020. Now, it’s set to receive some upgrades.

Entering into “Phase 2” of the project, Montgomery County’s Department of Transportation (MCDOT) will host a public meeting on Thursday, August 28 to discuss updates on the transit initiative.

Since implementation, the US 29 Flash BRT brings service between Downtown Silver Spring and Briggs Chaney and rush hour weekend service to Burtonsville – known as “Phase 1” – according to an MCDOT Corridor Advisory Committee (CAC) document.

The project’s “Phase 2” portion – the topic of the Thursday, August 28 meeting – sets out to complement existing Flash BRT infrastructure. Specifically, the changes target the stretch of road between Sligo Creek Parkway and Tech Road, MCDOT said in a Monday press release.

The upcoming meeting discussing Phase 2’s proposed plans will be divided into hour-long sections. The first hour will be a public meeting focusing on facilities for pedestrians and cyclists, followed by a CAC meeting to discuss the corridor’s Flash BRT’s preliminary design.

The in-person event will be held at Four Corners Ethiopian Evangelical Church in Silver Spring from 6-7 p.m. The CAC meeting will take place from 7-8 p.m. and is also open to the public.
