ROCKVILLE, Md. (Oct. 29, 2025) — Montgomery Community Media (MCM) announced the addition of veteran sports journalist Frank Hanrahan to its news team.
Hanrahan brings more than 25 years of experience covering sports in the Washington, D.C. region, with a career that has spanned some of the area’s most respected news outlets, including WTOP, WUSA and NBC Sports Washington. Known for his sharp analysis and deep knowledge of local sports, Hanrahan has long been a trusted voice for fans across the D.C. metro area.
Beyond the anchor desk, Hanrahan served as the play-by-play announcer for the WNBA’s Washington Mystics for 11 seasons and has worked on national broadcasts for the Big Ten Network, covering both football and basketball. His storytelling captures not only the excitement of the game but also the community spirit that defines Washington-area athletics.
“Frank’s depth of experience and authentic connection to this community make him a perfect fit for our news team,” said Jasmine White, CEO of Montgomery Community Media. “He understands what makes Montgomery County’s sports stories matter, not just the scores but the people behind them.”
Hanrahan will cover local and regional sports on-air and online for MCM’s broadcast, streaming, and digital news platforms, highlighting athletes, coaches, and programs that inspire pride across Montgomery County and beyond. He will work in close collaboration with MCM’s Director of News and Public Information, Markette Sheppard, who was hired in July, to develop a weekly news franchise.
Hanrahan is a native Washingtonian and longtime Montgomery County resident. He lives with his wife and three children in Takoma Park, where he also coaches local youth sports teams.
