Montgomery County Public School Superintendent Thomas Taylor kept up his annual back-to-school tradition by releasing a new music video Monday to mark the new school year starting Tuesday.
This year’s video was a mix of parodies of the songs “One Day More” from Les Miserables, “Can’t Hold Us” by Macklemore and “Golden” from KPop Demon Hunters.
Students, staff and the superintendent sang, danced and rapped to hype up the new academic year. The back-to-school music videos in 2024 and 2025 parodied Flo Rida’s “Good Feeling.”
This school year, students and staff are going back into buildings with some changes. MCPS will go âbell to bellâ with no cell phones in all schools, including high schools. There will be a new boundary study to include potential school closures, this time for elementary and middle schools. Following two school shootings last academic year — at Wootton and Blake High Schools — MCPS is putting in more door sensors and did camera upgrades. And there will be fewer social workers in schools — over the summer the school board cut more than 400 jobs, including social workers, in order to make up for funding they did not get in the fiscal year 2027 budget.
