Metro Planning Extended Summer Red Line Closures

Impacted Red Line Stations during summer closure Via. WMATA

Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) plans to shut down the Red Line from Fort Totten to Glenmont in early June to early September.

The plan is to construct the Purple Line mezzanine at Silver Spring, requiring a shutdown as the scope of work involves both tracks for an extended timeframe. Affected stations include Glenmont, Wheaton, Forest Glen, Silver Spring and Takoma.

Shuttle bus service will be available from Fort Totten to Glenmont during closure, with a detailed service plan under development.

Additional work and maintenance will occur during the shutdown. The Maryland Transit Administration pays for all support costs related to the scope of work.
