Metro Seeking Public’s Feedback on How to Improve Lines

Metro is asking for the public’s input on six proposed alternatives to help address customers’ needs on the Blue, Orange, and Silver lines, according to a press release.

The alternatives, which are a set of infrastructure and operational improvements selected through a cost-benefit analysis, are a part of the Blue/Orange/Silver Capacity and Reliability (BOS) Study that Metro started in 2019. Through the study Metro has identified different issues relating to capacity, reliability, equity, and long-term sustainability.

The public’s feedback will help Metro’s Board of Directors select a Locally Preferred Alternative (LPA), which is one alternative that the public believes best serves the needs of customers. Deciding this now would greatly help Metro kick-start projects that could very well take several years to complete and require a lot of support and investment from the federal government and Metro’s regional partners.

Here are two ways you can get involved:

Complete the online survey
The online survey, open through Sept. 30, is a good way to provide your thoughts on which alternative should be selected. It is available in both English and Spanish. By completing the survey, participants will be put in the running to win a $50 VISA gift card. The drawing for that will be after the survey closes.

Attend a hybrid public meeting
These free hybrid public meetings can be attended online, in-person or by phone. They provide participants with the opportunity to see a live presentation by project staff and have any questions answered. Here are three scheduled meetings that you can register for:

  • Tuesday, July 25 from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at George Mason University’s Van Metre Hall Multipurpose Room located at 3351 Fairfax Drive in Arlington, Va.
  • Saturday, Aug. 26 from 10:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the St. Margaret of Scotland Catholic Church Omega Room located at 408 Addison Road South in Capitol Heights, Md.
  • Tuesday, Sept. 12 from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the Metro L’Enfant Plaza HQ BoardRoom located at 300 7th St. SW, in D.C.
