Montgomery County Commission for Women Reveals Winners of ‘Girl Power Contest’

The Montgomery County Commission for Women (CFW) announced Victoria Lever, Federica Albanese, Ansuya Bisbey, and Natalie Jean as the winners of their annual “Girl Power Contest.” CFW asked contestants to respond to a prompt about the type of media they would create to inspire and empower women in their community in the creative format of their choosing, including short stories, poems, songs and works of art.

The contest was open to girls and women of all ages, and the winners were selected from the four categories: elementary school, middle school, high school and adult, respectively. Their entries were then judged by a panel of CFW commissioners and representatives from Montgomery County Recreation and Public Libraries.

The winners will be celebrated at a ceremony on June 12, where they will receive gift bags and certificates signed by County Executive Mark Elrich.

“I want to congratulate all of this year’s Girl Power Contest winners and everyone who took the time to submit an entry,” said Elrich. “Encouraging girls and women to see themselves as leaders, creators and agents of change is one of the ways we build a more equitable future.”

The works of all of the winners and honorable mentions, including an original song, video skit and script for a podcast of famous feminists can be found online.
