Multiple Montgomery County Council Committees will meet on Monday, July 21. They include a briefing about 2024 police statistical data and a review of added funds to the Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service (MCFRS) budget for fiscal year 2025-26.
The Public Safety (PS) Committee will meet at 9:30 a.m. to receive a briefing from Montgomery County Police Department representatives about 2024 police data. The briefing will include demographic data about sworn officers and information about police contacts with the community, such as recruitment events; data on the use of force, and community complaints about use of force.
The PS Committee will then review a $1.9 million supplemental appropriation for MCFRS to receive a Fiscal Year 2025 grant from the Senator William H. Amoss Fire, Rescue, and Ambulance (State 508) Fund grant, also known as the Amoss Fund. The appropriation will fund the purchase and repair of Fire and Rescue equipment and renovation of facilities used to house that equipment.
The Transportation and Environment (TE) Committee will also meet at 9:30 a.m. to review the Planning Board draft of the Master Plan of Highways and Transitways 2025 technical update. The Master Plan provides a summary of all existing and planned roadways in the county and provides a road map for making transportation investments in the county. Additionally, the Master Plan helps dedicate and preserve the right-of-way needed to build new roads and transitways. The current Master Plan includes recommendations to the County Executive and County Council for a transit study of the Germantown-Clarksburg corridor. It aims to determine if there is enough master-planned transportation capacity to support planned development in the area.
