Montgomery County recruiting residents for Water Quality Advisory Group

Montgomery County is seeking residents to fill 15 vacancies on its Water Quality Advisory Group, a volunteer group that advises county leaders on water protection policies.

The advisory group provides recommendations to the county executive and County Council on water-quality management goals, program priorities and funding for watershed protection and restoration, according to the county.

The group serves as a formal stakeholder body that helps guide strategies to protect and restore local waterways. Its mission includes recommending policies and programs that maintain the biological, chemical and physical health of county streams, rivers, wetlands, groundwater and lakes.

Officials said the open positions represent several community sectors, including academic and scientific, agricultural, business, environmental and public representatives. The vacancies are part of the county’s regular appointment process for boards, committees and commissions.

Members of the advisory group typically provide input through letters and an annual report that informs county decisions on water resource programs and priorities.

There is no compensation for the three-year term, but members are eligible for reimbursement for travel and dependent care for in-person meetings attended.

The deadline to submit an application is April 13.
