Montgomery County’s vibrant dining scene is once again earning regional recognition, with several local restaurants and hospitality professionals receiving nominations for the 44th Annual RAMMY Awards.
Presented by the Restaurant Association Metropolitan Washington, the RAMMY Awards honor the outstanding individuals, restaurants and food-service businesses that help define the Washington, D.C. area’s dining culture. With nominees spanning Silver Spring, Takoma Park and North Bethesda, Montgomery County is once again proving that its culinary community remains one of the region’s strongest.
Silver Spring Spotlighted
Jose Luis Salgado (photographed above) of Zinnia in Silver Spring, has been nominated as Employee of the Year. The award recognizes a non-managerial employee who exemplifies exceptional service, professionalism and dedication. A longtime member of the restaurant team, Jose’s connection to the property dates back to the days of the historic Mrs. K’s Toll House.
“I started working here in 2005. I’m so happy to be in this situation and I’m doing my best for Zinnia. This is my life and my boss is amazing. I love it here,” said Salgado.
North Bethesda Bites
Matt Adler, chef and owner of Caruso’s Grocery, with locations in North Bethesda and Washington, D.C., has been nominated for Chef of the Year for the second consecutive time. Caruso’s describes itself as being “modeled as a classic Italian American red sauce joint with a homemade feel.”
He also serves as the culinary advisor for Cucina Morini.
Takoma Park Provisions
Takoma Park favorite Soko Butcher earned a nomination for Hottest Sandwich Spot for the third year in a row. The award recognizes outstanding sandwich-focused restaurants, quick-service concepts and food vendors. Known for its creative menu that blends international flavors with traditional butcher-shop quality. Their signature offerings feature sauces such as chimichurri, gochujang mayonnaise and tzatziki. The business recently expanded with the opening of a second location in Leesburg, Virginia.
Meanwhile, Takoma Park newcomer San Pancho Burritos continues its rapid rise. Opened in July 2024 by husband-and-wife team David Perez and Carolina McCandless, the restaurant has earned a nomination for Best Fast Casual Restaurant of the Year. The restaurant specializes in San Francisco-style burritos, Mexican tortas and vegetarian-friendly options. The nomination follows the restaurant’s recognition as a finalist for New Restaurant of the Year in 2025.
The 44th Annual RAMMY Awards & Gala will take place June 29 at The Wharf. The public is invited to attend the official celebration at The Anthem beginning at 7 p.m.
