Montgomery County Police identified the victim as Patrick Adam Smith, 30, of Bowie.
A preliminary investigation revealed that Smith was operating a 2006 Triumph Rocket III motorcycle and traveling northbound on New Hampshire Avenue when, for reasons still under investigation, he lost control and collided with a vehicle traveling southbound on New Hampshire Avenue.

A motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene of a two-vehicle crash near the 22000 block of New Hampshire Avenue in Brookville on Saturday.
According to Montgomery County Police officers, an adult male driver of a black Triumph motorcycle was fatally injured as a result of the 6:17 p.m. crash that occurred on New Hampshire Avenue between Sapling Ridge Lane and Georgia Avenue. Lifesaving efforts were made at the scene, but the driver succumbed.
An adult male driver of a silver 2013 BMW silver 128i was not injured.
MCPD is investigating a fatal collision near the 22000 block of New Hampshire Ave. The call was received at 6:17 p.m.
New Hampshire Ave is closed between Sapling Ridge Ln and Georgia Ave. Drivers are advised to seek an alternate route.
