New Metrobus, Ride On Schedules Start June 29

Metro’s new bus initiative Better Bus starts Sunday, June 29, per the agency’s website.

The overhaul will rename bus routes, consolidate and eliminate some services and stops, and allow for more frequent service on high-traffic routes.

Metrobus’ new neighborhood profiles outline service in the following Montgomery County communities: Aspen Hill and Olney; Bethesda, Potomac and White Flint; Glenmont, Wheaton and Silver Spring; Rockville and Twinbrook.

Routes serving Montgomery County will be renamed to start with an M. The new initiative also introduces four tiers of service frequency, with high-frequency routes operating every 12 minutes or better, medium-frequency routes operating every 20 minutes or better, and low-frequency routes operating every 30 minutes or better. A new system of limited-frequency routes, indicated with an X at the end of their name, will also be introduced to operate more than 30 minutes apart.

The new schedule coincides with Ride On Reimagined, the updated bus initiative for Montgomery County’s Ride On system. Some Metrobus routes consolidate into Ride On routes. The Q line (Q2, Q4 and Q6) that operates between Wheaton and Shady Grove will become the Ride On 40 line. Ride On will also stop providing weekend service to discontinued Metrobus routes T2 and L8.

More information about the Better Bus initiative can be found on the WMATA website. A map of Maryland-specific services can be found here.
