New Site Collects Durable Medical Equipment Like Wheelchairs, Walkers

A new collection site has opened to accept donations of durable medical equipment like walkers, wheelchairs, shower chairs and at-home hospital beds.

County officials opened the site at the Shady Grove Transfer Station and Recycling Center last week. The collection site is part of a statewide durable medical equipment re-use program with the Maryland Department of Aging, and the county is participating in the program.

According to the county, residents can find out more about donating or receiving equipment at the state Department of Aging’s Durable Medical Equipment Re-Use webpage, or by calling 240-230-8000 or emailing dme.mdoa@maryland.gov.

The collected equipment will be sanitized, refurbished and provided to residents in need free-of-charge, speakers said during a press conference last Thursday.
