New Tool Will Help County Pet Owners Rehome Their Animals

The Montgomery County Animal Service and Adoption Center has partnered with Home To Home to help pet owners rehome their animals.

Users can to create a profile on the website and upload information about their pet — which can include dogs, cats, hamsters, turtles and other animals. Former owners can use the site to find short-term care for pets or communicate directly with potential adopters to find a new home for the animals.

Home To Home pet postings will be advertised on MCASAC’s Facebook page and on the shelter’s website under “Pets Available in the Community.”

In August 2023, MCASAC in Derwood waved adoption fees for the first 100 pets to find homes amid overcrowding in shelters. Home To Home will reduce the amount of pets surrendered to the shelter, according to a press release.

“There has been a steady increase in owner surrenders over the past few years,” Maria Anselmo, community relations manager for MCASAC, said in the press release. “We’re hoping this tool can act as another resource for owners who can no longer keep their pets.”
