New Trial Set for Pentagon Officer Charged with Fatally Shooting 2 Men

A new trial by jury will begin Oct. 2 for David Hall Dixon, the Pentagon police officer who was off-duty and out of his jurisdiction on April 7, 2021 when he shot at a car, killing two men.

Montgomery County Judge Mike Mason granted a mistrial earlier this month when a jury announced that it was deadlocked.

Jury selection will begin Sept. 28 for the new trial, according to the States Attorney’s Office for Montgomery County.

Pentagon Force Protection Officer Dixon has been indicted on murder and assault charges.

According to Montgomery County Police, Dixon was off duty when he noticed someone breaking into a car in the parking lot of Takoma Park Overlook Condominiums on New Hampshire Avenue, where he lived at the time. The victims got into a car, and as they drove away, Dixon fired several shots, allegedly resulting in the death of two men.

Dixon was charged in the deaths of 32-year-old Dominique Williams of Hyattsville and 38-year-old James Lionel Johnson of District Heights, as well as the attempted murder of 36-year-old Michael Thomas, who survived the shooting.

According to a police investigation, Dixon fired his weapon multiple times after the vehicle passed him and no longer presented an immediate threat that would have justified the use of deadly force.
