Officials Warn Visitors to Avoid Contact with Triadelphia Reservoir Water

The Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission (WSSC Water) issued a recreational water contact health advisory for the Triadelphia Reservoir on Tuesday.

This comes after WSSC Water detected high concentrations of blue-green algae in the reservoir.

The reservoir is located along the Patuxent River in Montgomery County and Howard County and is a popular destination for recreational activities like boating and fishing.

Visitors to the reservoir should avoid all recreational water contact for themselves and their pets.

Contacting or ingesting water directly from the reservoir can lead to adverse health effects for both humans and pets. WSSC Water encourages people who come into contact with the water to call their local health department. Montgomery County residents can call 240-777-0311 or 311.

The reservoir also serves as a drinking water source for WSSC Water. However, WSSC Water’s drinking water is not affected by the algae and continues to meet Safe Drinking Water Act standards, according to a press release from WSSC Water. Officials will be closely monitoring water quality conditions as a precaution.
