Olney Teen Charged As Adult in Fatal Crash

Caleb Jacob Alie of Olney was arrested in connection with a crash that killed a Bethesda man.

The 17-year-old driver is charged as an adult with manslaughter by vehicle and gross negligence. He currently is being held at the Montgomery County Central Processing Unit, pending a bond hearing.

Alie turned himself into Montgomery County Police on Friday in connection with his involvement in a Feb. 19 crash in the 2600 block of Olney-Sandy Spring Road (MD-108), east of Prince Philip Drive.

Through the course of the investigation, police determined that directly before impact, Alie was driving his Jeep Wrangler 86 miles per hour in a 40-mile per hour zone, using right-turn-only lanes to pass vehicles stopped at red lights and weaving through traffic by making multiple lane changes. Evidence also indicates that Alie was using a cell phone while driving, according to police.

The driver of the Lexus, 56-year-old Isadore Morton Gudelsky, was found unresponsive and pinned inside the vehicle. He was transported to an area hospital, where he later died from his injuries.

An adult female passenger in the Lexus was able to get out of the vehicle on her own and was transported with non-life-threatening injuries.

Alie was also taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
