‘Over One Incident a Day on Average’: Advocates Speak to Hate, Bias in Schools

This year alone, Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) are averaging more than one hate or bias incident per day — a rate tripled from past years — according to MCPS Superintendent Dr. Monifa McKnight, and antisemitic incidents against Jewish students “have arisen almost daily.”

On Thursday, McKnight announced new steps the school system will take to respond to the increased incidents, including revising fourth and fifth grade curriculums to align with social justice standards.

After McKnight’s address at Rockville High School, MyMCM spoke with community advocates about how the rise in hate is affecting young people.
