Pedestrian Killed Crossing Old Columbia Pike

A Silver Spring man was struck and killed while crossing Old Columbia Pike at Stewart Lane in White Oak in the early afternoon on Thursday, March 16.

75-year-old Teklu Bushen Siba was pronounced dead at the scene after being struck by a Ford Explorer. The driver remained at the location.

“My heart goes out to the victim and his family. This crash is the third pedestrian fatality in the past three months. Residents deserve to be safe while crossing the street, which is why I introduced the Safe Streets Act,” said Council President Evan Glass, who also chairs the Transportation and Environment Committee.

“Each pedestrian fatality serves as a tragic reminder of why we must do more to improve our streets and intersections. No family should have to endure the pain that comes from losing a loved one due to dangerous roads.”

The Montgomery County Department of Police Collision Reconstruction Unit is currently investigating this incident.
