Pike District Hires First Executive Director

Pike District Partnership announced the hiring of its first executive director.

Eugene Cornelius was chosen following a national search. He has more than 30 years of executive management experience in economic development, program management and strategic alliances. He most recently was senior policy advisor for the Milken Institute in Washington, D.C.

He also has held positions at the International Council of Small Business and the U.S. Small Business Administration.

When he starts July 1, Cornelius will be the primary advocate and spokesperson for the Pike District in North Bethesda. His job will be to foster public-private partnerships, grow membership and help begin initiatives.

“We are fortunate to attract a proven team player with strong leadership capabilities and deep experience in economic development,” said PDP Interim President Matt Herrmann. “I firmly believe that Eugene has the personality and vision to work collaboratively with North Bethesda residents, businesses and property owners to ensure our organization provides the highest level of advocacy for our community.”

Cornelius said he hopes to continue making the area “a prime location for advanced technology and biotechnology with new residential, shopping and cultural destinations.”
