Police Officer, Person Threatening to Jump Off Garage, Receive Minor Injuries

A Montgomery County Police officer and a person threatening to jump off a high-level parking garage in Silver Spring received minor injuries.

On Sunday at 9:25 a.m. police responded to a garage near Wayne and Georgia avenues for a person in distress.

“Third District officers bravely took action to stop and save someone who was threatening to jump,” Captain Jason Cokinos wrote on social media. He noted officers train in de-escalation and crisis communication techniques.

Both the officer and individual were transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening head injuries.

During her weekly meeting with the media, Council President Kate Stewart expressed her gratitude to the emergency responders. “We wish everyone a full and speedy recovery.”

Stewart added, “This incident is a reminder of the critical work our responders do each and every day.”
