The nearly decade-long Purple Line construction project is finally nearing completion.
Senior Project Director Ray Biggs said the Purple Line is about one year of construction and another year of testing removed from full operation.
“We have miles of track that have been installed,” Biggs said. “Almost 70% of track has been installed across the alignment.”
The Purple Line is planning to have construction completed by Dec. 2026, but the group will test the rails against all weather conditions throughout the entirety of 2027.
For some residents, the construction delays cannot come to an end soon enough.
“The Purple Line has been a joke for nearly the entire time I’ve lived [here],” Montgomery resident Charlie Barnett said.
Biggs said he understands the frustration.
“It was a tough summer,” Biggs said. “We recognize the community worked with us there.”
