On Wednesday night, Councilmember Kristin Mink hosted the latest United in Service webinars designed to address the needs of dismissed federal employees. During the presentation, Mink acknowledged one of those laid off government workers is her dad.
Mink channeled the emotions of those currently unemployed. She said she knew people were feeling “hopeless” and like the situation was “slipping away from us.” But she encouraged viewers not to give up and to fight for their rights.
Besides access to services like job opportunities and unemployment benefits, United in Service stressed the importance of joining a group like a union or a group to keep track of progress made.
Two lawyers, Chris Dols from the Federal Union Network and Richard Renner of Gilbert Employment Law, focused on issues facing fired government workers.
Always on the move, Congressman Jamie Raskin phoned in to tell the audience despite “tough times”, legal channels were “winning every day in court.” Right now, he said more than 200 cases have been filed against Administration actions, along with 125 preliminary injunctions and temporary restraining orders.
Raskin urged “solidarity – a victory for one is a victory for all.”
