The Montgomery County Department of Transportation (MCDOT) will roll out digital bus arrival time displays at high ridership bus stops around the county this summer. The displays will be located at 100 stops. They include audio and video readouts and text-to-speech options to increase accessibility. Approximately 50 screens have already been installed this summer, according to a MCDOT press release.
“By providing real-time information displays, riders can better predict their travel times and be alerted to any issues that may affect their trip.” County Executive Marc Elrich hopes the new technology leads to an increase in public transportation passengers within the county.
The displays are in response to bus riders wanting more accurate and immediate information about wait times and schedule updates.
“We released the Ride On Trip Planner app two years ago, letting riders plan their most efficient route across multiple modes of public transportation and access real-time Ride On bus arrival information.” Department of Transportation Director Chris Conklin explained these ‘ePaper’ displays are an extension of this work.
For more information about these displays and further information about transportation services within the county, see the MCDOT website.
