Richard Montgomery Junior Wins Raskin’s Congressional Art Contest

Katherine Xue, a junior at Richard Montgomery High School, won first place in U.S. Rep. Jamie Raskin’s (D-District 8) 2025 Congressional Art Competition.

About 60 pieces out of more than 150 submissions are currently being displayed at VisArts in Rockville, where Raskin hosted a reception and ceremony Thursday night to announce the winner and runners-up.

Xue’s oil painting “Coming Home” will be displayed in the U.S. Capitol Building for one year with art from other congressional districts nationwide.

About 25 runners-up will have their work displayed in Raskin’s congressional offices and in a virtual gallery. A panel of nine arts professionals judged all submissions and picked the competition winners.

This is Raskin’s ninth time hosting the contest, which is open annually to all high school students living in his district. Congressmembers in the U.S. House of Representatives host the competition in their districts every year.
