Rockville Rocket Team Earns Right to Compete for NASA Student Launch

Rockville Science Center’s Explorer Post 1010 rocketry team placed 19th in national competition, allowing team members to submit a proposal to compete in the NASA Student Launch Initiative in Huntsville, Al.

One hundred teams from across the country competed in the American Rocketry Challenge held May 20 in Virginia. The team placed the highest of all the teams representing the Washington, D.C. area.

In that competition, the team created a medium-sized rocket that needed to reach the closest to 850-feet in altitude and be in the air for 42 seconds, using a parachute.
