Rockville’s Rocktobierfest Returns Sept. 27 with German Music, Food & Fun

Rockville’s Oktoberfest-style event returns at the end of the month to celebrate German culture.

Rocktobierfest began eight years ago as an anniversary celebration of Rockville’s relationship with its German sister city, Pinneberg. The free festival has continued annually since then, but the relationship dates back to 1957. That’s when the City of Rockville formed a formal Sister City relationship with Pinneberg, “making it one of the most enduring sister city relationships in the world,” according to Rockville’s Sister Cities Corporation.

The festival will be held Saturday, Sept. 27, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. along Maryland and East Montgomery avenues. The roads around that intersection will be closed to traffic for the event.

Two music stages will feature Bavarian sounds and traditional German tunes. One stage is on Maryland Avenue and the other is on East Montgomery Avenue. Both will feature three bands.

There will be a variety of food including German sausages such as bratwurst, along with drinks from local breweries, including 7 Locks Brewing, Clear Skies Meadery, Lone Oak Farm Brewing, and Third Hill Brewing. There will also be artisans selling their goods.
