Sandy Springs Friends School Names New Leader

Sandy Springs Friends School announced Dr. Sean Hamer as its new head of school.

He began his tenure Tuesday, only a few months after the Quaker school, facing financial challenges, almost closed for good at the end of the school year.

With more than two decades of educational leadership, Hamer is a “lifelong advocate for equity, student-centered learning and transformative community engagement,” according to the school’s news release.

“This is an exciting and hopeful moment for Sandy Spring Friends School,” Hamer said. “The School’s mission—to provide an education that nurtures our students’ talents, deepens their understanding, and empowers them to bring about positive change—is more vital than
ever.”

Hamer is expected to work to increase enrollment, reduce debt and deepen the endowment.

He previously was Head of School at Alta Vista School in San Francisco.

He was chosen by the Board of Trustees, whose members sent out a welcoming message.
