Jan Weetjens, who has been interim director of Shepherd’s Table since August, was named as the nonprofit’s executive director.
“During his interim role, Jan has led with compassion, thoughtful mentorship, and a strong commitment to our mission — ensuring that every guest at Shepherd’s Table receives nourishment, dignity, and a sense of community. He has supported staff and worked on cementing partnerships and programs to address the increasing needs of our neighbors,” according to a news release announcing Weetjen’s appointment by the Silver Spring organization’s board of director.
“I am honored to step into this role full-time,” he said. “Every neighbor we serve, whether in our dining room, through our Resource Center window, or in our Culinary Training Program, is a reminder of the power of our community to make a difference in the lives of those who need it most.”
Weetjens replaces Manny Hidalgo who led the organization on Georgia Avenue for six years. Weetjens was an at-large member of Shepherd’s Table’s Board of Directors.
