Making its first Maryland State High School Football final appearance since 2008, Sherwood (Sandy Spring) made a valiant comeback but eventually lost to Mergenthaler Vocational-Technical (Baltimore) 40-20 at the Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium in Annapolis.
Down 28-0 after the third quarter, Sherwood clawed within 28-20 at the start of the fourth but Mergenthaler would pull away in the final 12 minutes to claim the Class 4A/3A championship. It is Mergenthaler’s third title in the last five years.
