The ongoing shutdown of the federal government impacts the DMV more than any other area of the United States. Hundreds of thousands of federal workers remain on furlough or now work without pay. But how does it affect some of our favorite places to go, like the C&O Canal or Great Falls Park? MCM visited the Park to find out.
The Virginia access to Great Falls remains barricaded and cars cannot enter. Despite that, visitors now park on the roadside and venture in on foot.
Things to consider before a visit during the government shutdown:
- Restrooms are not being maintained
- Trash barrels will likely be full
- Information and refreshment stands are closed
- Hazardous conditions that develop may go unaddressed
- Emergency response could be limited
