Silver Spring Man Charged with Involuntary Manslaughter

Darrel David Nixon, 31, of Silver Spring, was charged with involuntary manslaughter in connection with a February assault that led to the death of Morgan Andrew Hippchen Stone, 44, of Bethesda.

On Feb. 15, at about 2:30 p.m., Montgomery County Police officers and Montgomery County Fire and Rescue personnel responded outside La Catrina Bar & Lounge in the 4900 block of Cordell Avenue following the report of an assault.

When officers arrived, they found Hippchen Stone unconscious and unresponsive in the street. He was taken to the hospital with severe head trauma, according to police.

Surveillance video showed that Hippchen Stone was involved in an argument when Nixon allegedly punched him, causing him to lose consciousness and fall, according to police.

Hippchen Stone died from his injuries on March 9. The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner ruled the death a homicide on April 22, citing complications from blunt force head injuries as the cause.

On June 21, detectives obtained an arrest warrant charging Nixon with involuntary manslaughter. He was arrested Tuesday and taken to the Montgomery County Central Processing Unit, where he was later released on a $10,000 unsecured bond.
