Silver Spring Resident Claims $50,000 Powerball Prize

A Silver Spring man is $50,000 richer after picking up his Powerball winnings at the Maryland Lottery Headquarters in Baltimore recently.

Even though the March 29 Powerball drawing did not produce a jackpot winner, the Silver Spring resident won $50,000 with a ticket purchased at the Sunoco on Connecticut Avenue in Kensington.

He told lottery officials that he has won a few times playing the lottery in the past. He said, “A thousand, $1,500 before. This is the first big one.”

And what of his winnings? He told lottery officials he will pay a few bills and put the rest of his winnings away for the future. He may also plan a small celebration.

Maryland allows lottery winners to remain anonymous.

Kensington Sunoco located at 10550 Connecticut Avenue will receive a $500 bonus from the Lottery for selling this winning ticket.

Powerball drawings are held three times per week at 10:59 p.m. ET every Monday, Wednesday and Saturday. The next drawing takes place Saturday, April 8 with a jackpot estimated at $186 million.
