Silver Spring Woman Claims $1 Million Maryland Lottery Prize

A Silver Spring resident is the third Marylander this year to win a $1 million second-tier jackpot playing Mega Millions.

The 61-year-old sales associate visited Maryland lottery headquarters in Baltimore this week to collect her winnings. Maryland allows lottery winners to remain anonymous, so she gave herself the nickname “Lady Jackpot Chaser” as she talked about her April 18 Lottery win. She told lottery officials she has been playing the lottery game Mega Millions her entire life.

“I didn’t believe it. I didn’t know how to react,” said the 61-year-old. She was surprised from the moment she won but was not totally shocked since she knew her days of jackpot chasing would pay off.

“I always said that I would win the Lottery one day,” she explained.

She used a combination of her birthday and her friend’s birthday along with random numbers to fill out her lucky $8 Mega Millions ticket. She played two lines using her personal sets of numbers in the April 18 and April 21 drawings.

And how will the Silver Spring resident spend her winnings? She plans to pay off her home mortgage.

The Silver Spring 7-Eleven at 12405 Georgia Avenue where “Lady Jackpot Chaser” purchased the winning ticket received a $2,500 bonus from the lottery.
