Six Flags America in Bowie to Permanently Close This Fall

Six Flags America will permanently close its Bowie location this fall after 50 years of operation, marking the end to one of Maryland’s most iconic amusement parks.

The park’s final operating day will be Nov. 2, according to a statement from Six Flags President & CEO Richard A. Zimmerman. The adjacent water park Hurricane Harbor will also shutter its services on the same day.

“As part of our comprehensive review of our park portfolio, we have determined that Six Flags America and Hurricane Harbor are not a strategic fit with the company’s long-term growth plan,” Zimmerman said.

The 500-acre property will be marketed for redevelopment as part of the company’s plan to streamline its operations, Zimmerman said. In the meantime, season passes and tickets will be honored through the final operating day.

“This was a difficult decision, and we recognize the impact it will have on our Six Flags America and Hurricane Harbor park associates and guests,” Zimmerman said. “This final season will be an opportunity to celebrate the decades of fun that guests have enjoyed at the property.”

Additional information about the park, including the operating schedule for the rest of the year, can be found on the Six Flags website.
