A Gaithersburg man was arrested Sunday for suspected impaired driving after he struck a Maryland State Trooper in a work zone.
The trooper was treated at a local hospital and released.
Job David Martinez, 35, was charged with suspected driving under the influence following the 9:21 p.m. crash on southbound I-270 and Watkins Mill Road.
Martinez was driving a Honda passenger vehicle south when he struck the trooper’s marked patrol car from behind. The police vehicle had its emergency lights on. The trooper was inside the vehicle.
Martinez attempted to flee but was arrested by another trooper.
The right lane was closed for more than four hours due to the crash investigation.
This is the third Maryland State Trooper to be struck by an impaired driver this past weekend.
Officers from the Montgomery County Police Department, personnel from the Montgomery County Fire & Rescue Service, and Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration responded to the scene.
