State Police stop car rally in Layhill

Maryland State Police broke up an illegal car rally on Saturday, May 8, on Layhill Road in Silver Spring.

According to a news release, the police action was part of a Maryland Car Rally Task Force that worked from 9 p.m. Friday to 3 a.m. Saturday. In an effort to cut down on these events, the task force dismantled two different exhibition driving events and made three adult arrests in in Baltimore and Montgomery counties.

More than 60 vehicles were involved in the Silver Spring event, according to state police.

Christian Koenig, 20, of Manassas, Virginia, was arrested and charged with possession and/or operation of a stolen vehicle. He was driving a black Camaro, police noted.

State troopers also stopped a car rally in Halethorpe, Md. That rally began May 8 and continued into early May 10. Two people were arrested in connection with that rally.
