Strathmore Ends the Summer with Free Concerts, a Festival and a Poetry Class

The Strathmore August programming will feature free outdoor concerts, the annual Big Bloom Festival and a virtual poetry workshop.

Closing out the Live from the Lawn Concert Series, the venue’s Guldesky Gazebo Stage, located at 5301 Tuckerman Lane
in North Bethesda, will host two acts.

On Wednesday, Aug. 13, at 7:00 p.m., the Strathmore welcomes the Ukefest Finale. At the culmination of the 17th annual festival, audience members are invited to bring their instruments and play along with the performers. The show will also feature a showcase of experienced performers, including ukulele teachers Aaron Keim, Cathy Fink, Jeff Peterson, Jim Beloff, Marcy Marxer and Steve Espaniola.

On Wednesday, Aug. 20, at 7:30 p.m., the Juliet Lloyd Band takes the stage. The Maryland-based musician will perform her original music, which blends soul, indie, pop, and rock.

In addition to these free concerts, the Strathmore will host the second annual Big Bloom Festival on Saturday, Aug. 9, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Good Hope Recreation Center at 14715 Good Hope Rd in Silver Spring. The event will feature live music, food trucks, a moon bounce and information on county resources.

Finally, on Thursday, August 21, poet Diannely Antigua leads a pay-what-you-can virtual poetry workshop entitled “Breaking the Little Song: Subverting the Sonnet Form.”  Antigua will guide participants of all levels through writing exercises.
