Many people cannot wait for the official start of summer. They look forward to spending time outdoors and soaking up the sun. However, the summer months can present some unique health challenges for adults, children, and even pets. Extreme heat, bug bites, and sunburn are just some of the problems people may encounter. MCM spoke with Dr. Fabian Sandoval, President and CEO of Emerson Clinical Research Institute in Washington, D.C. about ways to have a healthy summer.
Sandoval said people sometimes overlook the importance of keeping their eyes protected in the summer. He recommends people wear eyeglasses with ultraviolet light protection to keep UV rays out. He also said people should wear eye protection when they care for their lawns. Sandoval says simple grass cutting could cause problems especially if grass or other items fly into people’s eyes.
