Takoma Park officers praised for saving woman at bridge

Two Takoma Park police officers were lauded for stopping a woman who attempted to climb over a railing in an apparent effort to end her life.

Officers intervened after finding a woman standing at the railing of a bridge at the intersection of Sligo Creek Parkway and Maple Avenue on March 25 at about 6:30 p.m.

Cpl. Brandon Addison attempted to speak with the woman, who then tried to climb over the railing.

Addison secured her as Sgt. Henok Atakilt  pulled her to safety.

The women was taken to a hospital for evaluation.

“We are proud to recognize these two officers for their extraordinary actions, which reflect the highest standards of courage, professionalism, and commitment to our community. Their response had a significant and life-saving impact and exemplifies the dedication our officers bring to their work every day,” Takoma Park police said in a statement.
