Tuesday’s Mega Millions Lottery Jackpot Exceeds $1.55 Billion

The next Mega Millions lottery drawing on Tuesday, Aug. 8 may be the largest in history. After no ticket matched all six numbers drawn Friday, Aug. 4 the estimated jackpot grows to $1.55 billion.

The numbers drawn Friday night were 11-30-45-52-56 with a Mega Ball of 20. While no tickets sold matched all six numbers drawn to win the jackpot, nine tickets did win $1 million or $2 million. Seven of those won $1 million each and were sold in Louisiana, Missouri, Nebraska, New York, Oklahoma, Tennessee and Texas. Two tickets won $2 million each by matching the first five numbers and activating the Megaplier—an option available in most states with an extra $1 purchase.

The last Mega Millions’ jackpot was won in New York on April 18. Since then, the grand prize has been increasing.

The all-time record for largest lottery jackpot was a $2.04 billion Powerball jackpot won last year in California.

Half of the proceeds from the sale of each Mega Millions ticket remains in the state where the ticket was sold. In Maryland, the money toes into the Maryland General Fund to provide funding for education, public health and safety services.
